Safety when out hunting for snails
Snails are not dangerous but it is wise to take a few precautions when out collecting snails:
- Always return snails to where you collected them from
- Roadside verges and ditches are favourite places for Cepaea; take extra care when collecting in places like this
- Do not take risks hunting on cliffs or climbing trees etc.
- Always replace natural objects such as logs if you move them
- Always follow the Countryside Code when out hunting for snails
- If you are collecting by yourself be careful, ideally you should always go collecting with someone else
- Cepaea are often found where rubbish is found, use gardening gloves and a stick to over turn rubbish
